Window Types: Which Style is Best for Your Home?

Orange County, CA is a desirable place to live because of the beautiful weather and beach lifestyle. As a result, many homes in this area are designed to maximize the sunshine and the breathtaking views. Is your home designed in a way that allows you to enjoy the warm weather outside? There are days when it can be nice to open the window and let in the breeze, so you need to be sure that you have the right windows to facilitate this lifestyle.

Choosing Replacement Windows

Your Orange County replacement windows can be a great way to upgrade the look and function of your home. But, it can be an overwhelming decision for some homeowners to choose the style and design that they prefer. Here is a quick overview to help you compare options:

Single Hung:The single hung design is one of the most common styles of windows. The top section of the window is fixed in place without the option to move it up or down. The bottom section is placed on a frame that allows the panel to move. When the window is opened, the top area remains stationary, and the bottom section moves up.

Double Hung: This window design has two panels that move vertically up or down along the window frame. Since there are two parts that move, you can choose if you want to open the top or bottom area of the window. When the window is open, remains in the frame so that it doesn’t protrude inside or outside of the home.

Casement: To open this style of window, you turn a crank that hinges the panel of glass open. Typically, casement windows are designed so that they open outward either on the right or left side, depending on the location of the window.

Awning: Similar to the casement style, awning windows open outward with a hinge. But, the movement of the window isn’t controlled by a crank. You can choose to have the window open to the left, right, or at the bottom of the window.

Picture: A large stationary panel of glass is known as a picture window. Often, these windows are planned in combination with other windows that open and close. The big advantage of the picture window design is to maximize the view and the natural light that can come into your home.

Sliders: When a window opens side-to-side along a track, it is known as a slider window. These windows can be designed with one stationary section and another one that moves. Or, you might choose two panels that can be moved. This design is common for contemporary or modern style homes.

Bay: If you want to maximize interior space, then bay windows might be a good option. These windows protrude out from the wall. Usually, they are designed with both stationary panels of glass as well as either casements or double hung windows.
